US nukes back in Britain
According to multiple news sources, Nukewatch UK and CND, US nuclear bombs are back in Britain after a 17-year hiatus. A US transport plane was tracked from a New Mexico Air Force base to RAF Lakenheath in Suffolk, believed to be carrying B61-12 nuclear gravity bombs, each with three times the power of the Hiroshima bomb. Lakenheath has already received F-35A nuclear-capable fighter jets from the US. The presence of these weapons makes Britain a target, say campaigners. There have been ongoing protests at Lakenheath, including a two-week peace camp in April, and activists are preparing for actions reminiscent of those at Greenham Common in the 1980s, a women’s encampment that eventually drove cruise missiles out of the country.
