Here is Nuclear Hotseat Podcast host Libbe HaLevy’s write up:

  • Arnie Gundersen is a nuclear engineer, whistleblower, and green energy advocate who has been a consulting expert on many nuclear reactor issues, including the shut down of the San Onofre nuclear facility in southern California. Here, he explains the problems with the planned restart of the shuttered Palisades nuclear reactor in southern Michigan, on the shores of Lake Michigan.

Listen to the audio recording of the nearly 20-minute interview, here. (Arnie’s segment begins at the 36 minute, 39 second mark, and ends at the 55 minute 3 second mark.)

Arnie serves as an expert witness on nuclear safety issues, such as steam generator tube degradation, on behalf of an environmental coalition challenging the unprecedented Holtec scheme to restart the closed-for-good Palisades atomic reactor. The coalition includes: Beyond Nuclear; Don’t Waste Michigan; Michigan Safe Energy Future; Nuclear Energy Information Service of Chicago; and Three Mile Island Alert of Pennsylvania.

For more information on our coalition’s resistance to the Palisades “zombie” reactor restart, as well as Holtec’s scheme to construct and operate “Small Modular Reactors” on the tiny Palisades site, see Beyond Nuclear’s one-stop-shop of web posts dating back to April 2022, when Holtec CEO Krishna Singh first floated “SMR” new builds at Palisades, and Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer first floated restarting the closed reactor.
