Beyond Nuclear was honored to participate in both the Church Rock uranium spill (July 16, 1979) and Trinity atomic bomb blast (July 16, 1945) commemorations last weekend in New Mexico. At the Red Water Pond Road Community on the Church Rock Chapter of the Navajo/Diné Nation, Beyond Nuclear joined many other groups in co-sponsoring, and information tabling at, the 44th annual commemoration of one of this country’s worst radiological disasters, a massive spill of radioactive and toxic uranium tailings wastewater into the Puerco River. In Santa Fe, at the 78th annual commemoration of Trinity, our radioactive waste specialist Kevin Kamps info. tabled, and presented an update on resistance to Holtec’s environmentally unjust high-level radioactive waste dump targeted at the Land of Enchantment.
