Destroyer of worlds: Avoiding Oppenheimer’s prediction

With the film, Oppenheimer, being widely heralded by the media, and as we remember the first explosion of a nuclear device, the July 16, 1945 Trinity test in New Mexico, can the nuclear genie first unleashed by the Manhattan Project be put back in the bottle? Beyond Nuclear board member, Karl Grossman, argues that it can, and that the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons is just the vehicle to do it.
The inhumanity of chemical weapons, as witnessed in World War I, led to them being outlawed, a prohibition that has mostly held. This sets a promising precedent to abolish the greatest evil; nuclear weapons. We should all do our outmost to avoid humanity indeed becoming, in Oppenheimer’s words, “the destroyer of worlds”.
