ZOMBIE NUKES?! Palisades Precedent, Three Years On
May 22, 2025

On May 20, 2022, then owner of Palisades atomic reactor in southwest Michigan, Entergy, closed it for good. Holtec took over, supposedly to decommission it, on June 28, 2022. But decommissioning was a lie. By July 5, 2022, Holtec applied to the U.S. Department of Energy for many billions of dollars in bailouts, to restart the half-century old reactor, and build multiple “Small Modular Reactors” there. Thus far, Holtec has gotten $3.12 billion from state and federal taxpayers for the restart, but has requested much more. An environmental coalition, including Beyond Nuclear, has watchdogged this nuclear nightmare for three years, as well as Three Mile Island 1 (Pennsylvania) and Duane Arnold (Iowa), closed reactors following Palisades’ restart precedent.
See the Halloween 2022 rally flier for Zombies Against Palisades (ZAP!), a rally held at the Michigan State Capitol Building in Lansing.
