Remember when one million marched?

June 12 is the 40th anniversary of the largest U.S. peace demonstration in U.S. history, the nuclear disarmament protest that contributed to the end of the Cold war. That was when more than a million people gathered in New York City’s Central Park demanding the abolition of nuclear weapons. On that same date this year, a coalition of groups from across the US and beyond has organized an online event — “Defuse Nuclear War” Live Stream. The aim of the event is to persuade world leaders to do everything possible to prevent the use of nuclear weapons in the course of the Ukraine War and help to regenerate the forces needed to reverse a race to Armageddon. Beyond Nuclear is a cosponsor. (Headline photo: Mihan(AKA)Zed/Wikimedia Commons)
