The Trump Administration has directed the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) to overhaul long-standing radiation protection standards as part of a broader effort to accelerate the expansion of nuclear reactors, nuclear-powered data centers, and nuclear weapons production.

Join us for “In the Weeds,” a comprehensive dive into the scientific, medical, and legal issues behind the proposed NRC changes. Leading experts will explain what is being proposed, why it matters, what the potential health consequences could be, and—most importantly—what you can do before the August 31 public comment deadline.

Presenters: 

Yazan Alwadi – Doctor of Philosophy, Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Department of Environmental Health at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and one of the authors of National analysis of cancer mortality and proximity to nuclear power plants in the United States published in Feb, 2026. His research focuses on the health impacts of nuclear power, fracking, climate change, air pollution, extreme weather events, temperature variability, and occupational exposures.

Diane D’Arrigo – Radioactive Waste Project Director at Nuclear Information and Resource Services. Her main area of expertise is radioactive waste and radiation issues. She has been with NIRS since 1986, has a degree in chemistry and environmental studies and work experience in analytical chemistry and biological research.

Dr. Chanese Forte’–A Scientist in the Global Security Program, specializing in environmental toxicology and epidemiology.  Their research focuses on the health and well-being of communities affected by nuclear weapon mining, exposure, and the threat of exposure.
