The people of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts are mobilizing to oppose Democrat Governor Maura Healey’s plan to repeal a 1982 Public Referendum that requires a statewide vote before any new reactors and nuclear dumps can even be considered for the state.

Moreover, Governor Healey isn’t alone in charging off on another nuclear misadventure. Eight more Democratic state governors across the country are rallying around a relaunch of unpredictably expensive new nuclear power projects and dubious time tables despite President Trump’s issuance of Executive Orders to revive his own vision of gold-plated nuclear power plants. And it’s all about using other peoples’ money to enrich a few and generate more long-lived unmanaged nuclear waste while electrifying rate shock for the rest of us.

President Trump’s Executive Orders issued on May 23, 2025  strip what independence is left of the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission to directly report to The White House and threaten its Commissioners and staff for non-compliance.

Governor Healey is joined by Democratic Governors Kathy Hochul (NY), Gretchen Whitmer (MI), Gavin Newsom (CA), Tony Evers (WI), Ned Lamont (CT), Josh Shapiro (PA), JB Pritzker (IL) and Wes Moore (MD)  to rally around dirty, dangerous and expensive atomic power at precisely the wrong time under Trump’s authoritarian proclamation “Unleashing Nuclear Energy”.
