ZOMBIE NUKES?! Updates from across U.S.

It’s been three long years since Holtec’s CEO, Krishna Singh, and Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, first floated trial balloons at Palisades in s.w. MI (a bait and switch trick, and con job), to reverse decommissioning into “Small Modular Reactor” (SMR) new builds and an unprecedented “zombie” reactor restart instead. An environmental coalition, including Beyond Nuclear, continues to resist this, as well as Holtec SMR new builds at Big Rock Point in the n.w. Lower Peninsula of the Great Lakes State. TMI Alert at Three Mile Island Unit 1 in PA, Sierra Club at Duane Arnold in IA, and Mothers for Peace at Diablo Canyon 1 & 2 in CA, likewise lead grassroots campaigns against those follow-on “zombie” reactor schemes.

To a semi-Zombie reactor list – it never started after $10 billion was wasted on construction – but add the VC Summer reactor new builds project in South Carolina. The owner of the equipment at the site is trying to find bidders to either restart the project or buy the equipment at the site (likely for resale). It’s all a scam.
