Russian soldiers who invaded Ukraine in 2022 and occupied Chornobyl’s radioactive zone are dying

April 26, 2024. Thousands of Russian soldiers in the initial invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022 who were intent on taking Kyiv by force and occupation, only made it as close as the intensely radioactive zone of the April 26, 1986 Chornobyl nuclear catastrophe. They set up their camps and entrenched into the radioactive earth, including in the notoriously radioactive Red Forest. The Russians and their commanders ignored the many radioactive warning signs. They burned the radioactive wood in their campfires, inhaled its contaminated smoke, prepared their food, lived in their contaminated clothing exposing themselves to the radiation’s harmful effects before they finally retreated. Word is now getting out through Ukrainian professional channels that many of these Russian soldiers were sickened by their radiation poisoning and are dying of the radiation exposures. More of this story in the Kyiv Post.
