Hochul’s choice: Bought by the nuclear industry?

New York Governor Kathy Hochul is either in the pocket of the nuclear power industry or woefully ignorant about the technology itself. We suspect the former since there is ample empirical data to show that the choice she has made — to build a new nuclear power plant in New York State — is the worst possible one to address the climate crisis. Hochul twice calls nuclear power “zero-emission” in the first sentence of her announcement, something it manifestly is not. She has urged New Yorkers to stay cool and hydrated during the current heatwave, yet her energy plans will make things worse, diverting funds away from renewable energy and energy efficiency that could start reducing carbon emissions far sooner and faster.
