See urgent action alert from David Kraft, director, Nuclear Energy Information Service of Chicago, below. If you reside in Illinois, please take action ASAP, and spread the word to everyone you know in Illinois. If you do not reside in Illinois, please forward this alert to folks you know there, ASAP.
Kraft also got an excellent op-ed published in the Chicago Sun-Times, and wrote Illinois legislators a very strong letter.
NEIS Action Alert, dated November 8, 2023:
NEIS ACTION ALERT – IMMEDIATE ACTION NEEDED TODAY, NOW!
NEIS CONTINUES THE FIGHT AGAINST NEW ILLINOIS REACTORS!
Urge Representatives to oppose HB2473-Senate Amendment 3,
which supports SMNRs and moratorium repeal
Greetings All –
We just received word that the Illinois Senate voted 44 to 7 in favor of the above pro-nuclear bill, which would promote small modular nuclear reactors, and eventually discontinue the Moratorium.
The bill goes back to the House now for concurrence. THIS IS YOUR LAST REMAINING CHANCE TO STOP THE PRO-NUCLEAR FORCES FROM SABOTAGING RENEWABLES!
Safe-energy and environmental activists need to contact your representative, and call on him/her to oppose these pro-nuclear plans!
WHAT YOU CAN DO: CAN’T WAIT; IT MUST BE DONE NOW!!
1.) Contact your state Rep , urging him/her to 1.) vote against HB2473-Senate Amendment 3 when it comes up. Find yours and get contact info by clicking this link, and following the instructions. Be polite, but assertive: Let them know that Illinois energy future extremely important to you, that you don’t want nuclear to be a part of it.
2.) Deluge Governor Pritzker’s Comments page on his website, letting him know that you do not want more nuclear plants in Illinois’ energy future; and to support renewables, efficiency, energy storage and improved transmission instead.
Quite literally, today and tomorrow will determine whether the energy future of Illinois will be nuclear or renewable.
Thanks in advance for your efforts. We can win this one, but only if we are as relentless as the nuclear industry.
