Event: A new Nuclear Age?
As the Utah Municipal Power System (UAMPS) prepares to greenlight the first-ever small modular nuclear reactor (SMR) in the U.S. using the NuScale SMR design, a new analysis from the independent and non-partisan Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA) takes a deep dive into the financial viability of the project and what it means for ratepayers and other jurisdictions looking to build SMRs.
The report provides a comprehensive analysis of cost risks, construction timelines, and competitive alternatives to the project. Report authors will detail their findings during a live web-based news event starting at 12 noon ET/9 a.m. PT on Thursday, February 17, 2022.
The public can tune in and watch the event via this YouTube link.
Speakers will include:
- David Schlissel, report author and director of resource planning analysis, IEEFA;
- Dennis Wamsted, report author and energy analyst, IEEFA.
Watch live on Thursday. A streaming version of the news event will be available later that same day at www.ieefa.org.
