On this week’s Nuclear Hotseat, Dr. Helen Caldicott talks to host, Libbe HaLevy, about why using depleted uranium weapons is harmful to living things.

Writes HaLevy: “Dr. Caldicott is an Australian physician, author, and for six decades has been one of the world’s most important anti-nuclear advocates. She revived or founded several associations, including Physicians for Social Responsibility and International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War. Caldicott is dedicated to opposing the use of nuclear power, depleted uranium munitions, nuclear weapons, nuclear weapons proliferation, and military action in general. Nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize by Nobel-winner Linus Pauling, she is at the root of much of the anti-nuclear work being done today.” HaLevy interviewed Caldicott on May 14, 2023. And on this week’s Hot Story with Beyond Nuclear’s Linda Pentz Gunter, do the civilian evacuations around the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in Ukraine signal an imminent attack? The six-reactor site, already embroiled in Russia’s war against Ukraine, represents a deadly liability. It has suffered frequent losses of power. But an all-out attack at the plant could signal disaster for hundreds of millions of people.
