SIGN UP FOR OUR DECEMBER COURSE!
Cindy Folkers (Beyond Nuclear) and Mary Olson (Gender and Radiation Impact Project) have set out to teach about radiation. One more class is slated for 2022:
UNDERSTANDING THE HOW AND WHY OF U.S. RADIATION EXPOSURE STANDARDS
December 6, 7 and 8 noon, ET
In this third class hosted by Cindy Folkers (Beyond Nuclear) and Mary Olson (Gender and Radiation Impact Project), Dave Lochbaum and Diane D’Arrigo (Nuclear Information and Resource Service) join Mary and Cindy for a review of radiation regulation. We offer a historical perspective, examine the current primary federal regulations, and implementation; and present a thorough review of both the current Reference Man, as well as our Reference Girl proposal. Participants watch videos ahead of class to prepare for discussion and questions during class time (Zoom). Why would you care? Children and grandchildren are not adequately protected today… and females of any age are invisible in the regulatory scheme, though we suffer greater harm. Additional materials will be provided, including links to all the regulators and how to monitor them. We will also address your specific interests.
  • REGISTRATION REQUIRED: We are charging fees on a sliding scale ($30—$300) —AND we have a scholarship fund. No one turned away for financial reasons.
  • OUR GOAL: We want to help people be able to think about ionizing radiation, to better understand presentations, research papers, policy statements, and be more confident in asking questions, as well as helping their communities to understand radiation’s hazards better.
