Beyond Nuclear v. NRC: More join opposition to proposed waste dumps

On March 25, Natural Resource Defense Council and the City of Fort Worth filed Amicus briefs with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. They support legal challenges brought against the Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s approval of Interim Storage Partners’ consolidated interim storage facility in West Texas. NRDC focused on the ISP scheme’s Nuclear Waste Policy Act violations, our focus in the federal appeal. Ft. Worth’s focused on highly radioactive waste transport risks, backing arguments led by our allies, Don’t Waste Michigan, et al. (a seven-group coalition) and Sierra Club. These Amicus briefs add powerfully to our coalition’s legal arguments, in defense of health, safety, environment, environmental justice, consent-based siting and rule of law. More
